My best exercises: in my wardrobe

I love surfing the net searching Esl websites. The more I explore them the more I realize how many good teachers of english there are all over the world. They are teachers who like working with the new technologies and they offer their work to everybody.
Copying that way of working has helped me a lot so far. I am doing my own web and I realize it is my wardrobe. The place where I save all my exercises and the best of all: they are in the correct drawer. At the beginning of my career as a teacher I didn't use to have my exercises in the right order. Now, whatever exercise I need I find it inmediately in my "wardrobe".

E-pals project

A new year, a new project. This time we are going to work www.e-pals.com. It offers us the possibility to interact with students all over the world.
I registered in e-pals and made a profile of my students. Next day I had more than 15 e-mails from teachers, mainly from the USA, who also want their students interchange emails.
I started talking with a teacher of spanish in Penn Yan, New York. She teaches spanish there and their students were the same age as mine.
We've just started working. The american students started writing in spanish, introducing themselves and talking about the place where they live. Next, we answered in english.
I think it is a good activity. Besides practicing the language, they are meeting new people and a culture which is diferent for them.

The day we were The Beatles

Last year we had the idea of performing something related with "The Beatles". We didn't know how to begin, which songs to choose... But we did it. Step by step we chose 14 songs, not the most famous ones because I think all of them are very well-known. I chose songs because of the easy vocabulary, and others because of the grammar structure. I love them all, anyway. Once I had worked them in my lessons with the pupils, the teacher of music started his job. His target was to join all voices, music, harmonies etc. After lots of weeks he really got it.
We needed something else, not only singing. I wrote a play in valencian about a couple in their 60's. They were parents very late and they had a very young daughter called "Michelle". She is a very modern girl, likes David Ghetta, Black eyed Peas.... and she thinks her parents are very old-fashioned in music.
Her parents had met when they were very young, and had lived the final decade of the beatles. They, finally, song by song, show their daughter that they have also been young and modern like Michelle.
Last June, 23rd, our school performed "50 anys de Beatles". We were very succesful.
All the teachers in our school helped us. We were 70 students singing on the stage.

I feel good with my new pupils

Hiya,

This year I am in charge of a new group of pupils. They are about twelve and thirteen years old. I think it is a very good group. Besides, they usually participate a lot in my lessons. They, well, some of them, try to speak in english and that is the most important. If you never try, you can never know how good you can be in english.
I would dare to say that if they go on studying this way, when this group finishes ESO, more than 50 % of them will be competent enough to keep any conversation.

Here I am again,
One of my favourite hobbies is watching videos of famous speeches.
As Internet gives us the possibility to get "almost" everything, I was searching the net and found a speech given by Obama, in November 2008, after being elected President of the United States of America. I don't know if this man is going to improve America, I really hope so, but what it is sure, he is one of the most talented speakers in the world.
A young 27 year old "boy" is the owner of Obama's words. Jon Favreau is his name. He is the new president's speechwriters director. But Obama makes them his words.

The new president of the USA

Mr. Obama is the new president of the United States of America. He has been chosen by the american people because they think he is the right person to save America and the world of the terrible economic crisis all over the world.
This moment is very special for the USA, because he is the first "black" who is going to manage the first country of the world. But he was not the first "black" man who has tried to be the president. Martin Luther King, who was killed in 1968, was the first man who tried to bring hope to the world. His words "I have a dream" are still with us.
Mr. Obama may Martin Luther's words come true. Obama can!

Hi pupils,
I am happy to see you here again. Hope you have had a nice time last Cristmas. The second term has just started and you should speak english as much as you can. The main objective for this term is that you try to use the english language in my lessons. You must know that english is not only "grammar exercises", I'm sure you know it, but it is one of the main tools to use the language properly.
This blog was created for you to write freely in english, but unfortunately not everybody was making the correct use of it. So, anonimous writings are not permitted and you should write with your personal e-mail.
Speak english my pupils. You can!

Hi students!.
I'm sure you love Christmas' time, isn't it?. But sure most of you haven't got the marks you want. Anyway, this is the beginning of the year and you shouldn't give up. You still have time to study harder and pass this course.
Propose yourself the new year's resolutions and i am sur e you can get anything you propose yourself.

Lessons in the morning?

Hi bloggers,
We are starting June next week. It means the end of this course is coming very soon. June is sinonym of final tests, final marks, festivals... All the children and most of the teachers start getting stressed. Everybody smell the summer holidays which are next month.
We have a special timetable in June. Children only come in the mornings till 1 o'clock and ESO students finish one hour later, at 2 o'clock. I really hate it. I think students are not able to aquire anything after 4 hours. So it makes me wonder why most teachers prefer giving lessons only in the morning because "the afternoon is comepletely free". Who for? Teachers or students?. When I used to study in the university I used to have all my lessons in the morning from 8 to 2 pm. After a long daily trip I couldn't start studying till 6 or 7 pm.
May the children understand the meaning of not going to school in the afternoons as "free time"?. I strongly think so.

Planning the end of the course

Hi everybody,
I am planing tha last week term/course. I usually use songs in my lessons. I love it. Apart of making a reading with rythm, the students pull down the wall of shame they sometimes have in front of them and it doesn't let them speak fluently.
As most of my students love programs such as"Operación triunfo", o "Al pie de la letra" I have proposed them a karaoke for the last week.
One, two or even three people per group. They choose the song they like, of course I try to help them choose songs which are possible to sing for them. I mean, not very fast rythms and always try a standard english. Next, they will work it, looking up phonetics and meanings in order to have a deeper knowledge of the song.
I can say they have accepted the idea very well because they are already working it. Even they propose singing in the final festival. Not necessary to say that I will also sing....
God save us.......!

Can you use new tecnologies?

Hi,
Some of my students have already read my first try. Lots of them agree it will be a good tool but when they are asked to take part in it just type "hello" or things like that.
The new technologies are going faster and faster but not the correct use of them. Most of teenagers are asked to make a project using Word and most times they can only type. Of course they type as if they were using messenger. I mean they use lots of shortcuts to express what they want. Did you know you can also find shortcuts in english? Try this if you can.

Welcome to this new blog, my first blog.
This is my first experience in a blog. I am doing it in order my pupils read and write something extra, if they like. I've read lots of blogs and I really think it is a very useful tool for both teachers and students. I also teach spanish language in my school and I am planning another blog, "el blog de la clase" to make the students write what they like.
It will probably be very dificult, or maybe not, who knows?. If we don't try it, we will never know it. The students of this century are very used to using new technologies and probably they prefer typing in a blog than writing on a piece of paper.
